laser hair removal has been around since 1996. Lasers currently used are the alex, yag, diode and ipls( intense pulse light). Lighter skin colors do best with an alex or diode. Darker skin does best with the nd-yag laser. A limitation of removal of hair on womens faces has always been the effect of abonormal hormones. Women with polycysitc ovaries find it difficlut to totally remove lip, chin, neck and sidedburn hair. The extra male hormone stimulates hair growth. Spas and non-medical facilities will find it difficult to treat these women. Even when blood tests are normal a tiny amount of male hormone will make these women laser resistant. The solution is to combine a medical treatment form the outside or prescribe low dose water pills to weaken the efffects of the hormones. Typically, 2-3 months before laser treatment these medical approaches should be started. Waxing can also increase the effectiveness of laser treatment by waxing 2 weeks prior to laser sessions so all the hairs in the area are growing at the same time. These women may still require maintenance sessions about 3 months apart to maintain the effect. With this medical approach to laser hair removal better results are commonly achieved.
