VITILIGO (White Spots)
Q: What is Vitiligo?
A: Vitiligo is a common skin disorder characterized by the appearance of white skin patches. Association with other autoimmune disorders was reported. Approximately one third of patients have a family history of Vitiligo.
Treatment of Vitiligo is challenging. Treatment modalities include potent topical corticosteroids, psoralen with broadband wave UVA (PUVA) and narrow band UVB.
Q: What is the Multiclear?
A: The MultiClear is an advanced, sophisticated phototherapeutic system allowing your doctor to treat multiple medical and aesthetic disorders with different wavelengths of light.
Q: How does it work?
A: The MultiClear uses a proprietary blend of two wavelengths (UVB and UVA1) that have proved optimal for rapid repigmentation of “white” skin. The wavelengths of light emitted by the Multiclear trigger the melanocytes to produce more melanin in the non pigmented white skin and darken the existing melanin building blocks to normal skin color. The unique high intensity UVA1 included in the MultiClear pulse has a significant into inflammatory effect that restricts the continuing damage to the melanocytes.
The blend of these two specific wavelengths in one pulse of light allows a pain free treatment with minimal post treatment redness. This treatment has proven to provide significantly faster results than full body PUVA and narrow band UVB treatments.
Q: What will I feel?
A: Most patients would experience some redness in treatment area. Redness typically appears 24 hours after therapy is usually pain free. In rare cases a slight sunburn like phenomena will appear. Redness will generally subside in 3-5 days.
Q: What are the expected results?
A: Treatments are effective for all skin types and ages. Clinical work has shown that in facial areas MultiClear repigmentation starts after 10-12 treatments. Facial areas respond in around eighty percent of treated patients. Smaller response rate may be witnessed on trunckal area and extremities. Treatments are usually delivered twice a week for up to 12 weeks. Response in individual patients may vary.
Q: Is it safe?
A: Excessive UV light exposure is associated with skin aging and should be avoided. Reaction to MultiClear treatments maybe compared to reaction to sunlight but in contrast to sun tanning it delivers the light only to treated areas without any damage to normal healthy skin. Targeting the MultiClear to specific areas was shown to achieve therapeutic results in Vitiligo and other aesthetic disorders with smaller light doses than used in full body tanning on the beach or artificial light tanning parlors.
